Greetings Guardians!! This weekend the podcasts of the Destiny community will face off in the Crucible with the first ever Destiny Podclash. This event will bring together passionate Guardians in the Destiny community. They are ultimately battling for bragging rights all while benefiting St. Jude's children's hospital at the same time. The Destiny community has been very supportive of St. Jude's over the last few years, truly making a difference in peoples lives and bringing pride to Guardians. To talk more about this fantastic event I got in touch with one of the event creators GreyGhost from the Grenades and Horseshoes podcast. Inquiring how they come up with the event idea and how it developed into what it is now, " It all happened organically. I wanted to create an event that would bring the Destiny Podcasting community together. We have had a fantastic time at Grenades and Horseshoes interacting with many of the Destiny podcasters prior to this event and I wanted something purposeful to bring the many podcasts together. We knew that Destiny 2 was launching private matches in May and I figured one of the best ways to bring us together would be through a little friendly competition. We created this event to act as a catalyst to generate collaboration and cooperation amongst the Destiny Podcasting community. Building relationships is something really important to me. This event has brought together over 100 gamers who love this game and this community enough to give their time, talent, and resources to create and support this type of content. I think that’s pretty incredible", GreyGhost responded. There are 21 community podcasts taking part in the Destiny Podclash this weekend, a few more showed interest but were unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. Considering all the incredible talent involved with this event, I asked who helped with creating the Destiny Podclash, GreyGhost replied saying, " *MarkSquare created the icon and background art. I worked on the registration, brackets, and schedule. I’ll be running the stream production side while FalloutPlayz and Bones (Crucible Radio) shoutcast the event. Our friends at the Saint-14 project have taken lead on the fundraising campaign including the event shirt designed by hatchiedave. Fluffyfingers from PotatoThumbs manages the Discord. And everyone has been engaged and active promoting the event".*
This event will host multiple game modes. Each team must best their opponents best two of three rounds. Finding the best Crucible maps that best suited the matches for this event took time and research. I asked what sort of research was done with selecting the maps and how they decided on the game modes for this event, GreyGhost shared a look inside the event development team, " The Grenades and Horseshoes hosts and producers spent a lot of time working out the format. We picked game types that would highlight a mix of objective based and straight skill based play styles. We wanted there to be more tension in the tie-breaker round so we went with a more competitive and dramatic game mode in survival. The maps were picked based on playability for a wide variety of team size and the specific game mode. We also wanted maps that would stream well from a layout, lighting, and texture perspective. It was not lost on us that some of these maps are from Destiny one and we all have fond memories of them. We then tested what we thought would work well in this format and ended up with the following": Round 1: Clash of Javelin-4 Round 2: Control on Distant Shore Round 3: Survival (3 rounds of 5 lives) on The Burnout
Each match should last approximately 30 mins. The Destiny Podclash will be streaming the event live at twitch.tv/grenadesandhorseshoes on Saturday June 9th from 12pm PST to 6:00pm PST and the final rounds will be Sunday June 10th from 12pm PST until only one Podcast remains the victor.
The excitement surrounding this event can be felt throughout the community on all social platforms and heard on each community podcast. This event is also doing something incredibly good. All of the proceeds from donations during the event will benefit St. Jude's children's hospital. The event shirts, on sale now, will go to help the Little Lights in the children and families at St. Judes. " This really came from our friends at the Saint-14 project. They saw this as an opportunity to really rally our respective audiences together for a fun event to support a good cause. St. Jude’s has been established as a particularly special cause within the Destiny community due to the success of the GuardianCon events these past couple of years. As GuardianCon is right around the corner, we wanted to get a jump start on helping the kiddos and their families.", GreyGhost said. Lastly, I asked GreyGhost if this will become an annual event going forward within the community and its' podcasts, " We certainly hope so, and based on the support from the Destiny Podcasting community, I think it has a good shot at having a place within the Destiny community moving forward.", Grey responded confidently. Be sure to tune in this weekend to support your favorite community podcasts and share in the experience of this incredible event in the community. Kicking off Saturday June 9th from 12pm PST to 6:00pm PST and the final rounds will be Sunday June 10th from 12pm PST until only one Podcast remains victor in Shaxx's Crucible reigning over the others, you won't want to miss this. See you in the Crucible Guardians, til next time!.
