Since the Season of Opulence, Destiny's daily and regular player population has steadily been on the rise. Destiny Tracker's counter recording clocked in Crucible players yesterday at nearly 765,000, while over 940,000 players dropped into player-vs-environment activities.
Aided by the announcement by Bungie that the company would be introducing cross-save capabilities in the coming Shadowkeep expansion, as well as the revelation they have a "new era" of the video game planned now that they have thrown off their Activision shackles, it seems like the world of Destiny is on an opulent path once more.
It's a clear sign that the looter-shooter is having a resurgent period under the now-free Bungie's reign. With clear plans, new information, and even whispers that the game could be enabling cross-play features in the future, it's clear that Destiny is on the upswing when it comes to support, and the longevity of the product. Because of this, players are buying in.
It's interesting to see that the Destiny Tracker core stats are charting more than 1.6 million players combined across PvE and PvP. While, of course, these numbers will have crossovers, a stat reported by the Charlemagne Bot brings the number closer to 1.1 million daily users. This number correlates with the Tracker Network's hidden player-count stats.
While there's no month-to-month information since the Activision-Bungie split, we do know that there were more than six million active users per month at the end of 2018. This came in a quarterly report from Activision, where chief operating officer Collister Johnson revealed the company had lost "half" of its active users from Destiny's split - around six million.
No matter which way you look at this, it's positive news for the game. There were rumblings that the season-based content release had killed interest in the title in 2018, but with Bungie back at the helm and already promising exciting new content like Shadowkeep means that players are more ready than ever to drop back into Destiny and get back on the grind.
